Wei Sheng Koung, PenampangTaoist temple

Malaysia · MY

Wei Sheng Koung, Penampang

Wei Sheng Koung (兵南邦威圣宫) is a Taoist temple in the Penampang district, just south of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Dedicated to Fa Zhu Sheng Jun — known in Chinese as 法主圣君 or Lord Zhang Gong — it is recognized by devotees as the first temple in Penampang devoted to this deity, who is venerated primarily by the Hokkien community for protection and blessings. The temple is an active place of worship, hosting elaborate Taoist ceremonies, an annual birthday festival for its main deity on the 23rd day of the seventh lunar month, and community rituals such as the Crossing the Peace Bridge ceremony. Visitors interested in living folk religion will find it a genuine glimpse into Taoist practice in East Malaysia.
