AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Teksevatnet is a spacious, lowland lake in the Dalane district of southwestern Norway, set on the border of Eigersund and Lund municipalities in Rogaland county. At just 182 metres above sea level and easily reached from the E39 highway, it offers a rare kind of quiet wilderness so close to main transport routes: a wide, shallow expanse of water fringed by grazing meadows, small forests, and one of Norway's most accessible paddling routes.↗↗
Part of the Hellelandsvassdraget river system, this lake is a reservoir that feeds downstream hydroelectric power while still supporting good outdoor recreation — kayaking between its islands and campsites, birdwatching at the protected Vasshusvika wetland at its eastern end, and fishing in the broader salmon-bearing watershed.↗↗
A Lake Built for Paddling
With a surface area of about 2.26 square kilometres, a maximum width of 3.25 kilometres, and over 17 kilometres of shoreline, Teksevatnet is large enough to feel open and weather-driven — you will encounter wind on the water — yet compact enough to explore comfortably in a day by kayak. The shoreline is a patchwork of grazing meadows, scrubby woodland, and sandy or gravelly beach landings, giving it an unhurried, pastoral character typical of lowland Rogaland.
