AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Janauari Ecological Park (Parque Ecológico Janauari) is a flooded-forest nature stop on Rio Negro's Lake Janauari, in Iranduba across the river from Manaus. Its signature experience is a boardwalk-and-boat journey through seasonally drowned igapó forest out to a lake carpeted with giant Victoria amazonica water lilies, the Amazon's most photogenic aquatic plant.↗
A working ecological park, restaurant and tour base rolled into one, it pairs a slow forest walk — where wild monkeys, sloths and river birds drift into view overhead — with a riverside plate of regional Amazonian fish. For most travellers it is the heart of a day tour from Manaus that also touches the famous Meeting of the Waters and pink-river-dolphin habitat nearby.↗
A forest that floods, and the lake of giant lilies
The park sits on the Iranduba side of the Rio Negro, where the river's edge dissolves into igapó — rainforest that the water climbs over for months each year, leaving tree trunks standing in dark, mirror-still canals. The classic route threads that landscape two ways: by boat, gliding slowly through narrow channels under the canopy, and on foot along elevated wooden walkways that lift you to eye level with the flooded treetops. Both ways finish at the same spectacle — a sheltered lake thick with Victoria amazonica, whose round lily pads can spread wider than a person, their upturned rims a vivid red-green on the black water.
