AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Ossipee Lake is the sixth-largest lake entirely within New Hampshire, a tranquil 3,245-acre body of water in Carroll County fringed by vacation homes, public beaches, and the dramatic peaks of the Ossipee Mountains. Rated 4.7 by visitors, it is a genuine four-season playground for swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking—far less crowded than the Lakes Region's famous Winnipesaukee, yet offering the same New England lake-town charm.↗↗↗
A Lake Built for Quiet Adventure
Sitting at 407 feet above sea level in northeastern New Hampshire, Ossipee Lake stretches roughly 3.5 miles long and 2.3 miles wide, with about 26 miles of shoreline shared among the towns of Ossipee, Freedom, and Effingham. The lake's average depth of 27 feet and maximum of 73 feet make it comfortable for swimming and accessible for all kinds of watercraft. Fed by the Bearcamp, Lovell, and Pine rivers from the west and south, and the West Branch River from the north, its waters drain eastward through the Ossipee River toward the Atlantic.↗↗
