AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Fairview Mountain is a modest, roughly 4,300-foot summit in the Mojave High Desert of San Bernardino County, California, sitting just north of Apple Valley (zip 92307) and mapped on the USGS Apple Valley North quadrangle. It is not a developed park or a famous overlook, but a quiet desert peak whose appeal lies in the wide-open landscape around it and in the small satisfaction of bagging a named High Desert summit.↗↗↗
For hikers and peak-baggers based in the Victor Valley, Fairview Mountain offers an easy-to-reach objective away from the crowds of the bigger ranges: a brushy desert top with views across the dry lake beds, valleys and low ridges that make up the Mojave's rolling fringe.↗↗
A Mojave High Desert Summit
Fairview Mountain rises to about 4,281 to 4,329 feet (roughly 1,305 to 1,316 meters) above sea level, a height that puts it well above the desert floor around Apple Valley yet leaves it dwarfed by the granite walls of the Morongo and San Bernardino ranges to the south and west. The difference is part of its character: this is the Mojave's softer, more approachable side, a peak of scrub and sloping shoulders rather than sheer rock.
