AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Wat Pa Rangsi Charoentham is a small Thammayut forest monastery in the quiet countryside of Charoen Sin District, Sakon Nakhon. Officially registered in 2018, it carries the lineage of Thailand's revered forest meditation tradition in a rural village setting where simplicity and stillness take precedence over grandeur.↗↗
A Forest Monastery in Isan's Heartland
Sakon Nakhon province in northeastern Thailand has long been a spiritual home for the Thammayut forest tradition — the austere monastic lineage that traces its roots to the celebrated Ajahn Mun Bhuridatto. Charoen Sin District in particular hosts a dense cluster of forest temples, and Wat Pa Rangsi Charoentham is one of its newest entries, receiving official registration on 31 August 2018.↗↗
The temple sits in Moo 6 of Ban Dong Bak, a village in Ban Lao Subdistrict. Its Thai name, วัดป่ารังษีเจริญธรรม, combines the word for forest monastery (Wat Pa) with terms evoking radiance and the flourishing of dharma. As a วัดราษฎร์ (common-people's temple) rather than a royal foundation, it belongs to and serves its local village community in the traditional Isan manner.
