Vitträsket
Vitträsket is a small, strikingly clear lake on the Boden side of the Råne River valley in northern Norrbotten, fringed by forest and reached through the linked village of Sörbyn. Its name hints at its character: this is a kallkällsjö — a cold-spring lake — whose spring-fed water runs so pure that the lakeside Restaurant Kallkällan serves it at the table. For travellers in the Boden and Luleå region, Vitträsket is a relaxed day-out destination built around two things: swimming and sauna by the water in summer, and some of northern Sweden's most prized arctic char fishing across the rest of the open season. Covering about 1.22 square kilometres and sitting just 38 metres above sea level, the lake is small enough to walk around and intimate enough to feel like a local secret, yet it sits within the protected Råneälven Natura 2000 area. Whether you come to cast a line, dip into the cold clean water, or simply take a slow walk beneath the pines, Vitträsket rewards a detour off route 760 north of Boden.
