Eagles Nest
Eagles Nest (Nead an Iolair) is a craggy 334-metre peak rising out of Killarney National Park in County Kerry, Ireland. Though modest in height, its steep rock face forms a dramatic gateway between the Middle Lake and Upper Lake, where the Long Range river narrows, and it rewards hillwalkers with one of the most scenic panoramas in the Macgillycuddy's Reeks foothills. The name recalls the golden eagles that nested on these precipitous cliffs until the early 20th century, and its famously sharp echo once drew Victorian tourists who watched boatmen fire small cannons at its base. Today it is a rugged, pathless scramble — short but surprisingly tough — for confident walkers chasing big views from a small mountain.
