Geßingerstein
The Geßingerstein is a granite outcrop and viewpoint perched at 874 metres in the foothills of the Bavarian Forest, just above the small village of Schaufling in Lower Bavaria. A natural monument shaped in the Ice Age, it rewards a short walk through shady mixed woodland with one of the region's great lookouts: the land unrolls to the south into the wide Danube plain, and on clear days the Alps appear along the horizon. What makes it special is how easy the payoff is. From the Rusel highland car park the rock can be reached in roughly fifteen minutes, yet it stands among a network of well-marked trails that connect to neighbouring viewpoints, a themed health-walk loop and the highest ground in the municipality. It suits families, casual walkers and anyone wanting a high vantage point without a mountain day.
