Altanek

Altánek is a dramatic rocky promontory rising roughly 200 metres above the Vltava River in Central Bohemia, offering one of the most breathtaking panorama points in the Middle Vltava region. From this natural lookout, the river coils into a perfect horseshoe-shaped meander below, framed by forested slopes and crowned by the distant Orlík Dam reservoir. The name Altánek — Czech for "little gazebo" — was given to this rocky pinnacle by locals who recognised that nature had built the best viewing platform imaginable. The viewpoint sits within the cadastral territory of Zduchovice, a village first documented in 1045. Today it draws hikers, photographers and anyone wanting a moment of genuine wilderness within easy reach of Prague. The trail from the village square to the cliff edge takes under half an hour through mixed forest, with a final scramble up steep steps carved into the hillside.
