Soldatam Neob"Yavlennoy Voyny
The Monument to the Soldiers of the Undeclared War in Chelyabinsk commemorates South Ural residents who fell or were wounded during the Soviet-Afghan War (1979–1989). Unveiled on 14 February 2009 — the 20th anniversary of the Soviet troop withdrawal — it stands in Yubileyny Square along Metallurgov Highway in the city's Metallurgichesky district. The memorial's composition evokes the mountain passes of Afghanistan: a border post stands before two massive granite boulders representing a gorge entrance, with cast-iron relics of war — an assault rifle, a soldier's field panama hat, and two funeral tulips — resting at their base.
