Castle

Le Pecq · FR

Chateau de Grandchamp

The Château de Grandchamp is a Louis XVI–style residence standing at the heart of a 36-hectare private estate in Le Pecq, just 15 kilometres west of Paris. Rebuilt in 1911–1912 by Louis Dior—the uncle of couturier Christian Dior—the château commands a wooded park on the Seine's great bend, flanked by the historic royal town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and within easy reach of Versailles. Today the château is undergoing a careful architectural rehabilitation to become luxury apartments, but its limestone façades, mansard slate roof, sculpted putti and the surrounding classified park still make it one of the most quietly striking heritage sites in the western suburbs. The estate itself remains strictly private, so visiting means appreciating it from its edges and pairing the stop with a walk along the Seine or a day trip into Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
