Tempelhof Hangar 5
Tempelhof Hangar 5 is one of the great curved aircraft hangars of the former Berlin Tempelhof Airport, now a landmark event venue in the south-central district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg. Set inside the vast, shell-limestone terminal complex that British architect Norman Foster once called "the mother of all airports", the hangar trades its aviation past for trade fairs, art, concerts, launches and performances — and is best known to visitors today as a main stage of the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair each September. What makes the space special is sheer scale with a sense of history: a 3,512 m² hall with ceilings reaching around 16–18 metres, wide sightlines, floodlit daylight and five enormous rolling hangar gates that can be opened onto the former apron. It is an industrial volume that feels at once monumental and surprisingly light — a place where you can stand in the same arc of architecture that once sheltered aircraft and now shelters contemporary art.
