Bosc vertical
The Vertical Forest at CaixaForum Barcelona is the world's first living wall to feature suspended trees — a spectacular 12-metre-high, 50-metre-wide green installation growing on the former wall of the Palau de la Metal·lúrgia on Montjuïc. Conceived by renowned French botanist Patrick Blanc and inaugurated in December 2022 for the 20th anniversary of CaixaForum, it transforms a bare industrial boundary wall into a thriving Mediterranean ecosystem. Home to roughly 22,000 plants across dozens of species and 15 large trees hanging in mid-air, the installation is both a work of living art and a serious experiment in urban biodiversity. Its concept revolves around roots — the hidden structures that sustain life — made visible through hyperrealist sculptures embedded in the green wall.
