Tennōzan Walking Trail

The Tennōzan Walking Trail (天王山遊歩道) is a gently rising woodland lane in the hills of Mizuho, a green pocket of western Tokyo. One of a network of seven maintained footpaths that climb toward Rokudō-yama Park and the Sayama Hills, it is the most relaxed of them: a broad, low-gradient track through secondary forest that suits a slow stroll, a family outing, or even a cycle. Roughly 1.3 km end to end, the path reaches its upper exit in about ten minutes on foot, then opens onto a bright terrace of grass, playground and views over the town and the mountains beyond. What makes this corner of Tokyo special is the contrast between its easy access and its rural feel. The forest is the classic satoyama secondary woodland of the Sayama Hills—dominated by chestnut and konara oak that are tended and coppiced rather than left wild—while the ridgeline viewpoints look west over orchards and rooftops toward the long walls of the Okutama, Tanzawa and, on a clear dry day, the silhouette of Mt. Fuji. It is a place for short, frequent visits across the seasons rather than a single epic hike.
