Wat Choko
Wat Choko (วัดโจ้โก้) is a modest, active community temple tucked into the centre of Chiang Khong town, a short walk from the local hospital and school on the Thai side of the Mekong border with Laos. It is not one of the district's ancient heritage wats but a people's temple serving the everyday religious life of the Wiang neighbourhood. Registered as a Maha Nikaya wat rat in 2015, it reflects the living, unmonumental side of northern Thai Buddhism: merit-making, temple fairs and a quiet courtyard in the middle of a working border town. For travellers basing themselves in Chiang Khong, it makes an easy, low-key stop between the district's more famous temples and the river.
