Playa de Famara
Playa de Famara is Lanzarote's most dramatic stretch of coast: six kilometres of golden sand pinned between the open Atlantic and the Risco de Famara, a sheer volcanic wall rising over 400 metres above the shoreline. The beach faces directly into Atlantic swell and the constant north-easterly trade winds, making it the island's undisputed surf capital — and one of the most reliable wind and water sports spots in the Canary Islands year-round. Beyond the surf, Famara rewards visitors with a raw, windswept beauty unlike anywhere else on the island. At sunset, the wet sand mirrors the fiery ochre of the cliffs while surfers appear as dark points against the burning sky. The small village of Caleta de Famara, at the beach's southern end, provides seafront dining, surf schools, and the laid-back atmosphere that has drawn water-sports enthusiasts here since the 1990s.
