Balatonvilágosi Millenniumi emlékmű
On a grassy bluff above the southeastern shore of Lake Balaton, the Balatonvilágos Millennium Memorial (Millenniumi emlékmű) raises a towering emblem of the Hungarian Holy Crown to the sky. Set inside the village's Millennium Park, it was unveiled in 2000 to mark the thousandth anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian state, and it pairs that weight of history with one of the region's finest open-air views across the water. The monument is the work of Mihály Gábor, an award-winning Hungarian sculptor, and stands roughly 12 metres tall, so it is visible from a distance and unmistakable up close. The hilltop setting — the magaspart, or high shore, that rims much of Balaton — makes this a place to climb for the panorama as much as for the sculpture: a calm, elevated lookout where national symbolism, a wide sheet of lake, and open sky all come together.
