Playa Buelna
Buelna Beach (Playa de Buelna) is a small, postcard-perfect cove on the eastern coast of Asturias, set in the green parish of Buelna halfway between the resort town of Llanes and the village of Pendueles. Tucked between cliffs and ringed by meadows and dry-stone walls, it is a natural beach prized for its wild charm and, above all, for El Picón—a dramatic limestone pinnacle that thrusts vertically out of the sea and has become the cove's signature landmark. What makes Buelna unusual is how it changes with the tides. The beach stretches from a tight 50-metre ribbon of fine white sand at high water to as much as a kilometre at low tide, when a long natural channel opens out and the open sea can seem almost hidden from the sand. The water entering that sheltered channel leaves the bathing calm and largely wave-free, which is why families consider it a safe, relaxed spot—though it comes with no lifeguards and no beach bars.
