Menai Suspension Bridge

The Menai Suspension Bridge is one of the most important landmarks in British engineering history. Completed in January 1826 after seven years of construction, Thomas Telford's masterpiece was the world's first major suspension bridge to carry road traffic, spanning 176 metres across the fast-flowing Menai Strait between the Isle of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales. Today, the Grade I–listed bridge still carries the A5 road while offering pedestrians a walkway with spectacular views over the strait, the nearby Britannia Bridge, and the Snowdonia mountains beyond. Illuminated at night and surrounded by excellent walking paths, it remains a compelling destination for anyone drawn to engineering heritage and dramatic coastal scenery.
