Köyceğiz
Köyceğiz is not your typical Turkish seaside resort. A small municipality and district of Muğla Province, it sits on the north shore of the great freshwater Köyceğiz Lake, where pine-covered hills, citrus groves and reed beds frame a calm stretch of water that eventually leaks its way to the Mediterranean through the narrow Dalyan channel. Far from the thump of beach clubs, the town has the unhurried, lived-in charm that earned it membership in the international Cittaslow network in 2019. The draw here is a slow rhythm of lake and land: a long lakeside promenade for sunset strolls, a famously huge weekly farmers' market, short boat cruises to thermal mud baths, and day trips down the reedy waterways to the rock tombs of ancient Kaunos and the turtle beach at İztuzu. It is a base for walkers, birders, families and anyone who wants the beauty of the Turquoise Coast without the crowds.
