Köves-mező
Köves-mező is a sun-drenched meadow plateau on the Börzsöny mountain side of Hungary's Danube Bend, perched at 278 metres above the Danube town of Nagymaros. Long popular with local hikers, it offers sweeping views toward Visegrád Castle and the Nagy-Villám peak, scattered benches and fire pits ideal for picnics, and serves as a waypoint on several of the region's finest day hikes. The name translates as 'Stony Meadow', a reference to the Late Miocene limestone that lies exposed on the surface here — a geological contrast to the volcanic andesite that builds the surrounding hills. Free to visit year-round and reachable on foot from two railway stations, Köves-mező is one of the Danube Bend's most rewarding and accessible outdoor escapes.
