Kartal Hill
Kartal Hill (Kartal Tepesi) is the summit of Murat Dağı, rising to approximately 2,312 metres above sea level on the border of Kütahya and Uşak provinces in western Turkey. Known in antiquity as Dindymos — a sacred mountain of the Phrygians — it is the second-highest peak in the entire Aegean Region. The trailhead village of Çukurören sits at its northern foot, providing the most direct route to a landscape of ancient forests, rare wildflowers, and panoramic views where three river systems split toward different seas. This is a genuine wilderness destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts: expect steep forested climbs through beech and pine, a subalpine meadow near the top, and rewards that include the sight of the crown imperial ('weeping bride') in late spring, golden eagles riding thermals, and on clear days a view stretching across both the Aegean plain and the Central Anatolian steppe.
