Ash Lake
Ash Lake is a small freshwater lake tucked inside the Blue Mountain–Birch Cove Lakes (BMBCL) Wilderness Area in Nova Scotia's Halifax Regional Municipality, near the residential community of Hubley. Sitting at roughly 76 metres in elevation and framed by mixed forest, granite barrens and quartzite ridges, it is one of those rare quiet waters you can reach in under half an hour from the heart of Atlantic Canada's largest city. The draw here is the sense of genuine wilderness so close to home: an attractive, lightly developed shoreline with open view-scapes, a network of hiking trails, and connections to neighbouring lakes and the popular Blue Mountain look-off. For locals, Ash Lake is a destination for a swim, a paddle-portage, a cast line or a long walk through protected provincial woodland.
