Bitimo
Bitimo is a mountain pass in the highlands of northern Ethiopia, sitting at roughly 1,450–1,470 m (around 4,760–4,830 ft) where the route works its way up the eastern edge of the Ethiopian plateau. A small-scale geographic feature rather than a built attraction, it is marked on maps and climbing databases by its coordinates (12°16′N, 39°36′E) and, in some references, by the Italian-flavoured name Passo Bitimo. Travellers mostly encounter Bitimo as a named notch on the overland road through this highland belt, close to the small towns of Waja and Alamata on the border country between the Tigray and Amhara regions, and some 370 km north of the capital, Addis Ababa. There is no visitor centre or curated sight here; the appeal is the landscape you cross to reach it and the sense of threading a way through the escarpment.
