Mount Fumbe
Mount Fumbe (フンベ山) is a tiny 59-metre hill that stands right where Noboribetsu meets the sea, tucked behind the station and the fishing port. Despite its modest height it carries an outsized story: in local Ainu tradition it is Fumpe-sap, the washed-up head of a great whale-monster, and for generations it was treated as a sacred mountain. Today a short, easy walking path climbs to its summit ridge, making it one of the most effortless sea-and-port viewpoints in the Noboribetsu area. The whole outing takes little more than half an hour: a steep but well-kept path, a loop along the crest, and a string of lookouts over Noboribetsu's working harbour, the breakwater, the distant lighthouse on Ayoro Cape and the bay beyond. It suits families, casual walkers and anyone already in town for the hot springs who wants a quick taste of the coast rather than a full mountain day.
