Ankobaka
Ankobaka is a modest, isolated mountain peak rising to roughly 800 metres (about 770–820 m depending on the survey) in the far southwest of Madagascar, in the Atsimo-Andrefana region around the village of Ampilokely, in the Befandriana Sud area of Morombe District. It is not a built-up tourist attraction but a dry, sun-baked summit set in one of Madagascar's most biologically distinctive landscapes—the spiny and dry forests of the Andrefana, the same arid southwest that shelters the Mikea reserve and the karst-strewn Mahafaly plateau. For the intrepid traveller, Ankobaka offers the quiet appeal of a genuine backcountry peak: no marked trail, no summit facilities, and no crowds—just a climb of local knowledge, endurance, and wide views over a sparsely populated interior that most visitors to the island never reach.
