Gates Lake
Gates Lake is a small, shallow natural lake outside the village of Fifield in northern Wisconsin's Price County, a quietly scenic spot set among the forests and waterways that make this corner of the state a low-key paddling and fishing destination. At about 87 surface acres with a maximum depth of only 5 feet, it is the kind of intimate, warm-water lake that rewards a relaxed visit rather than a busy one. The lake is best known for easy shoreline and small-boat access, panfish and largemouth bass, and the calm, sun-warmed water that a shallow basin creates. A public boat landing offers a carry-in launch suited to canoes and kayaks, making Gates Lake a pleasant place to paddle, cast a line, and take in the wooded Northwoods landscape without crowds.
