AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Nasu Wan Wan World (わんわんワールド / 那須わんわんワールド) was a dog-themed leisure complex set in the green highlands of Nasu, in Tochigi Prefecture. Rather than a conventional zoo, it was built around dogs: a spacious dog run, petting plaza, puppy village, pet hotel, grooming salon and a lakeside stroll course, all tucked into one leafy site. Today the facility is permanently closed and no longer welcomes visitors, but its story explains why dog-loving families once drove out to this corner of the Nasu resort area.↗
If you are planning a trip to Nasu hoping to visit, the practical headline is simple: this one is gone. The good news is that the surrounding district is packed with open animal attractions and dog-friendly spots, so the trip itself is still well worth making.
What the park offered
During its years of operation, Wan Wan World styled itself as a "comprehensive facility for dogs" wrapped in nature. The centrepiece was a 2,000-square-metre dog run fitted with agility equipment, where visiting pets could race and train across open grass. Around it sat a cluster of themed zones: a petting-and-meeting plaza called Wan Wan Garden, a puppy village known as Doggy Square, a goods-and-food building named Dream House, an in-house pet hotel (Wan Wan Palace) and a grooming salon, the Terrier House. A gentle walking route looped past the on-site pond, the "Wan Wan Pond stroll," so owners could cool off with their dogs among the trees.
