AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Set in a lush garden just steps from the iconic Dogo Onsen Honkan, the Dōgo Giyaman Glass Museum is a treasure chest of approximately 300 rare glass pieces spanning the Edo, Meiji, and Taisho eras — including one of western Japan's largest collections of giyaman (cut glass) and bīdoro (blown glass).↗↗↗
The museum's theme is a "Dogo History Story," weaving together the heritage of Japan's oldest hot spring town with the delicate brilliance of Japanese glass. Highlights include the red sheet-glass panes once set into the Shinrokaku watchtower of Dogo Onsen Honkan, which quietly reflect the memories of a steam-shrouded era, and a new historical materials section tracing Dogo's three-thousand-year story.↗↗
Outside, the garden features art installations of glass and water — including a white heron sculpture and a cascading wall of wine bottles — that are illuminated at night, transforming the grounds into a mystical, otherworldly scene.↗
