AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Mata Bhagwati Kunj Ashram is a working centre of the Gayatri Parivar, a worldwide Hindu spiritual and social-reform movement, set along the Bahraich–Lucknow Road at Niyamatpur in the Terai belt of Uttar Pradesh. Named in honour of Vandaniya Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma—the life-partner of the movement's founder, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya—the ashram functions as a local 'seat of divine power' (Shaktipeeth) where devotees gather for mantra chanting, fire rituals and selfless service.↗↗↗
It is a quiet, village-scale spiritual stop rather than a grand monument or tourist circuit. Its appeal lies in atmosphere and participation: a calm prayer hall, the rhythm of daily devotion, and a lively programme of community yagyaj (fire ceremonies), satsangs and sanskars that draw hundreds of local devotees on festival days. For a traveller passing between Bahraich and Lucknow, it offers an unhurried glimpse of how a modern devotional movement lives at the grassroots in rural Awadh.↗↗
