AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Sree Nandeeshwaralayam is a Shiva temple set in the quiet farming country around Kathaluru and Vempalli, near Obuladevaracheruvu in southern Andhra Pradesh. Built as a fresh granite Sivalayam and consecrated to Lord Shiva as Nandeeshwara, it is a working house of worship rather than a crumbling monument — a place where local devotees come for daily darshan and where the craftsmanship of a new temple is still vivid enough to touch.↗↗
What draws visitors here is the unusual combination of a rural Rayalaseema setting and an ambitious, recently raised stone complex. The temple has earned a high rating from the relatively few travellers and pilgrims who find it, mostly for the calm atmosphere, the imposing black-granite architecture and the unhurried, community feel of a small village shrine.↗↗
A New Granite Sanctuary to Shiva
The heart of Nandeeshwaralayam is a black-granite Shiva temple — a Sivalayam assembled from a reported 30,000 cubic feet of dressed stone, an uncommon scale for a village shrine in this part of Andhra Pradesh. The main sanctum, or garbhagriha, rises to about 32 feet, while two smaller companion shrines dedicated to Ganesha and Parvati Devi stand at roughly 25 feet each.
