AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Shiv Temple in Bahadurganj is the town's principal shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, long serving as the spiritual anchor of the Hindu community in this small border town in Kishanganj district, Bihar. Established in the 1970s and managed by a local temple trust, it sits in the area known as Shivpuri along State Highway 99, and remains the site where devotees gather for daily darshan and the heightened worship of Shravan.↗↗↗
The temple is currently undergoing a complete reconstruction — the old dilapidated structure has been demolished and a new Vaastu-compliant building raised in its place, with the original Shivling ceremonially relocated nearby during construction. The project reflects both the community's devotion and its determination to give the town a proper landmark worthy of its name.↗
A Living Heart of the Community
Bahadurganj sits in the flat, green Tarai landscape of northern Bihar, where the Himalayan foothills begin their long descent toward the plains. The town is overwhelmingly Muslim (about 67 percent), making the Hindu minority's institutions particularly significant as gathering points for identity and worship. Shiv Temple — known locally as the Bahadurganj Mukhya Shivalaya (Main Shiva Shrine) — fulfills exactly that role.
