AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Kalikka Beach (Finnish: Kalikan uimaranta) is a public swimming-lake beach on the southern shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi, at Kalikantie 42 in Yläne. It is a classic Finnish lakeside bathing spot: a gentle, shallow sandy beach, a wood-fired-feel beach sauna right on the water, changing rooms, showers and a grill shelter, all set on a wide grassy shore shared by two neighbouring municipalities. Locals rate it a favourite, and it is exactly the kind of place where you can spend an entire summer day swimming, saunaging and grilling.↗↗↗
What makes Kalikka special is how complete the experience is for a free public beach: you can swim in clear Pyhäjärvi water, alternate with hot sauna and a plunge back into the lake, cook over the grill by the shore, toss a volleyball on the sand court or try the mini-golf lawn, and even take a cold-duck winter swim from October to May. The grounds are wheelchair accessible, and the whole area is reached by an easy drive from Yläne centre with roadside signs.↗↗
