AT A GLANCE
Why go?
The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds is one of Europe's most powerful sites of remembrance. Housed inside the unfinished north wing of the massive Congress Hall where the Nazis planned to gather 50,000 party members, the museum confronts visitors with the history of the Nuremberg rallies (1933–1938) — and the architecture of megalomania itself. A bold steel-and-glass wedge designed by Austrian architect Günther Domenig slices diagonally through the building, physically breaking the rigid geometry of Nazi monumentalism while leading visitors upward through the exhibition.↗↗↗
Now reopening after a major expansion, the center presents the new permanent exhibition "Nuremberg and the Nazi Party Rallies," with multimedia and interactive formats drawing on the latest historical research. Beyond the building, the surrounding 4-square-kilometre grounds — scattered with ruins, foundation stones, and vast open spaces now used as a public recreation area — can be explored independently along a marked trail with information boards. This is a destination that rewards deep engagement: part museum, part archaeological site, part meditation on how societies reckon with a monstrous past.
