AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Eildon Hill Reservoir is one of Brisbane's best-kept secrets: a heritage-listed water storage facility perched on a bushland hilltop just 3.5 km from the CBD, offering sweeping 360-degree views that rival the city's famous lookouts without the crowds. Built in 1930, the reservoir still serves the Windsor area while its summit has become a beloved local park for walkers, dog owners, and anyone craving a quiet moment above the rooftops.↗↗
The short climb to the top is rewarded with panoramic views stretching from the Brisbane skyline to Moreton Bay's islands, and on clear days all the way to the Glasshouse Mountains. New viewing platforms, upgraded walking trails, and rest areas mean the hilltop experience has only improved in recent years.↗↗
A Hill with Two Histories
Before the concrete went in, Eildon Hill was already a landmark. Aboriginal groups reputedly used it as a favoured vantage point, and when the land around Brisbane's northern suburbs was first released for sale in 1858, the hill's slopes were among the earliest parcels purchased. The Reverend George Wight, who built his home on the southern slopes and established a preaching station there by 1863, is credited with naming the hill after the Eildon Hills near his home in Scotland.
