AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Schloss Tabor is a small, storied castle set in the gentle hills of the tri-national Raab–Örség–Goricko Nature Park, right where Austria, Hungary and Slovenia meet. The oldest building in the Jennersdorf district, it began life in the 15th century as a fortified outpost and today works as Burgenland's southernmost cultural centre—part historic site, part open-air opera stage, part year-round festival venue.↗↗↗
Visitors come for the romance of the place—arcaded courtyards, a round tower bearing the Batthyány crest, and views that stretch across three countries—and for a packed programme of operettas, brass music, regional food festivals, exhibitions and a beloved winter Advent market.↗↗↗
A castle on the border
Tabor sits in the softly rolling Neuhaus hills within the cross-border Nature Park Raab–Örség–Goricko, and the surrounding landscape is part of its appeal: on a clear day the views run into Styria, Slovenia and Hungary. The name itself tells you where you are—"Tabor" comes from the Slavic word for a fortified camp, and the building type traces back to the Hussite fortifications of the Czech town of Tábor.
