The best time to visit is February through April, when rain is least frequent and temperatures are warmest, with highs around 28-29°C. May and June are also pleasant, though rain increases. The rainiest stretch is July through December, with nearly daily showers and high humidity. Visit in the dry months for clearer views of Arenal Volcano and easier hiking.

Stay near the town center for easy access to restaurants, the central park, and local tours; it suits first-time visitors. The road toward Arenal Volcano, west of town, is quieter and closer to the national park and hot springs, ideal for nature-focused stays. The area around Palma, near the volcano, offers a more remote, rainforest setting. Featured hotels like Nayara Gardens and Hotel El Silencio del Campo are along the volcano road, while SUWA VILLA ARENAL is in the center.

For a classic day trip, many visitors also head to the nearby town of Monteverde for its cloud forest reserves.
