The best time to visit Hvar is from June to August, when the weather is warm and sunny, with highs around 31°C and only 3-6 rain days per month. May and September are also pleasant, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. The rainiest stretch is November, with 14 rain days, while July is the driest and hottest month. For a balance of good weather and comfort, late spring and early autumn are ideal.

Stay in Hvar Town for the main harbor, fortress, and nightlife; it suits first-timers. The quieter Milna area, south of town, is better for a relaxed beach stay. For a more local feel, consider the residential streets near the cathedral, close to sights and restaurants. Villa Porta Maestra and Palace Elisabeth are in the town center, while Hotel Fortuna is in Milna.

Start with Španjola Fortress for the best views over the town and harbor. Vrboska Otok Hvar is a scenic spot worth seeing for its coastal charm. Plaža Dubovica offers a beautiful pebble beach with clear water, while Bonj Beach is a convenient, popular swim spot. Plaža Malo Zaraće is a quieter cove for a relaxed dip.

Full-day tours from Hvar head to the Blue Cave, the Pakleni Islands, and the Red Cliffs on the south shore, with swimming and snorkelling stops. Wine, lavender, and village tours also cover inland Hvar. For a classic day trip, take a ferry to the nearby island of Brač or visit the town of Split on the mainland.

Plan 3 days in Hvar: one to explore Španjola Fortress and the old town, one for Bonj Beach and Plaža Dubovica, and one for a boat trip to the Pakleni Islands or Blue Cave. If you want to add a day trip to Vrboska or the island's interior, add an extra day. Two days works if you skip the boat tour and focus on the fortress and beaches.
