Warren Island State Park
Warren Island State Park is a 70-acre, spruce-covered island tucked into Penobscot Bay off the Midcoast town of Lincolnville and Islesboro, Maine—and reaching it is half the magic. There is no bridge, no public ferry landing, and no road: the only way on is your own boat, kayak, or canoe. In exchange for that paddle or hop across the water, you arrive at one of the most quietly beautiful escapes on the Maine coast, a place of forest trails, rocky coves, osprey nests, and campsites that feel a world away from the mainland. Maine's first state park built exclusively for boating enthusiasts, Warren Island keeps deliberately simple—no electricity, no landline, no running-water taps on the sites. What it offers instead is a flat 1.5-mile loop trail around the whole island, a handful of sheltered tent sites and Adirondack lean-tos, a small day-use beach by the pier, and some of the best birdwatching in Penobscot Bay. It is a park that rewards planning and repays you with serenity.
