Shinohara Inari Shrine
Tucked behind a temple cemetery in the quiet residential backstreets of Yotsugi, Shinohara Inari Shrine (篠原稲荷神社) is a small neighbourhood guardian dedicated to Inari, the kami of rice and plenty. There are no towering vermilion gates or crowds here—just a compact, lovingly kept precinct that the people of the old village of Shinohara have looked after for more than three centuries. Its story is rooted in this corner of low-lying Tokyo. The shrine was established when the hamlet of Shinohara split off from neighbouring Tateishi village, and it took its name from the slender bamboo (shino-dake) that once grew thickly across the reclaimed wetland that is now Katsushika City. Farming families facing the constant threat of river floods entrusted their harvests and safety to the Inari deity, and that intimate, everyday faith still shapes the place.
